Neste uke kommer Will Oldham, alias Bonnie Prince Billy, til Oslo - support på hele runden i Skandinavia er vår egen Susanna.
Susanna Wallumrød har tidligere jobbet med Bonnie Prince Billy, og når han returnerer til Oslo neste uke, er det igjen med Susanna på laget.
Anledningen for besøket er Bonnie Prince Billys nye album sammen med Dawn McCarthy, «What The Brothers Sang» - et album hvor de to tolker et knippe låter av The Everly Brothers.
Før de to slipper til, er det imildertid Susanna som skal varme opp publikummet. Dette gjør hun ikke bare i Oslo, men på alle datoene i Skandinavia. Susanna slapp i fjor albumet «Wild Dog» til strålende kritikker. Susanna har uttalt følgende om den forestående turnéen:
– Å være så nære hans musikk og se hvordan han arbeider har vært en fantastisk og lærerik skole å gå. Jeg er meget takknemlig for samarbeidet og gleder meg enormt til å høre han live igjen - å åpne konsertene hans er en stor ære.
Også Bonnie Prince Billy har vært ute og uttalt seg om Susanna, og skryter hemningsløst av Kongsberg-artisten:
– When we dream, our bodies cut off the pipeline from brain-to-body (not counting nocturnal emission lines) so that we can go through the high-octane adventures of the dream without running around the house and killing ourselves. When a singer listens to another singer sing, his brain similarly can put himself through all of the moves it would take to be performing the singing. This is what makes some singers listenable to other singers, and makes some singers completely intolerable. I can't recognize an operatic performance as music because my brain blocks it out; it doesn't exist as singing or music. Susanna's singing is like a glass slipper, except not so precious and fragile. It's a harrowing dream-sequence that the wiring between my brain and heart and voice rejoice in experiencing, because my dreams are not of histrionic emotional projection or mathematical precision when it comes to singing. My ideal is the female subtlety and informed musicality, mixed with a depth of image and experience and lyric, that Susanna's work realizes.
